  AbstractLow temperature detectors have a wide range of applications covering an energy scale of about 12 orders of magnitude. Since such detectors can reveal an excellent energy resolution and a low energy threshold they are also very suitable detectors for rare event searches. In this overview talk I will give an introduction to the concept of low temperature detectors and discuss in detail how such detectors are applied in the field of direct dark matter detection and experiments searching for the neutrinoless double-beta decay.
